Learner-Centered Foundations for Educators Course Overview

An introduction to learner-centered education, this course explores the evolving role of the educator and the mindsets and beliefs they need to create a learner-centered environment. It explores what a learner-centered environment looks like and how to take your next step in implementing more authentic, personalized, competency-based and inclusive & equitable practices into learning experiences.

COURSE MODULES
Modules will include videos, lessons, reflection activities, checks for understanding, additional resources and a performance task to apply what you learn.

MODULE WHAT YOU’LL BE ABLE TO DO
Module 1
 Introduction		 Articulate why learner-centered education is needed now and understand the necessary mindset and practice shifts to get there.
Module 2
Introduction to Inclusive & Equitable Learning		 Audit your current practices and make a plan to implement one inclusive & equitable learning strategy.
Module 3
Introduction to Authentic Learning		 Audit your current practices and make a plan to implement one authentic learning strategy.
Module 4
Introduction to Competency-Based Learning		 Audit your current practices and make a plan to implement one competency-based learning strategy.
Module 5
Introduction to Personalized Learning		 Audit your current practices and make a plan to implement one personalized learning strategy.
Module 6
Design a learner-centered learning experience		 Design a learner-centered learning experience that is authentic, competency-based, personalized, inclusive & equitable.

Course Enrollment

Enrollment includes:

  • 1 year of access to the course in the Thinkific platform
  • Access to an online community of learner-centered educators.
  • Access to team members available to answer questions within 48 hours.

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS

Upon approval of your performance task receive 1.5 quarter units of post-baccalaureate, salary-scale applicable credit offered by UCSD.
