Project-Based Learning Course Overview

In this course participants will take on a learning challenge and reflect on their own learning experience. You will also dive into the elements that make a great project-based learning experience and distinguish them from traditional projects. Participants will be guided through the process to design a project-based learning experience with the goal of making learning more authentic but also personalized and competency-based.

COURSE MODULES
Modules will include videos, lessons, reflection activities, checks for understanding, additional resources and a performance task to apply what you learn.

Module 1
Introduction to Project-Based Learning
Distinguish between projects and project-based learning and assess why PBL is an effective learner-centered strategy
Module 2
Designing for intellectual challenge and accomplishment
Draft a project idea with an essential question, outcomes, and performance assessments
Module 3
Personalized learning pathways
Incorporate student voice, choice, and agency in learning experiences
Module 4
Making learning authentic
Redesign assignments to create more authentic applications
Module 5
Project management
Create rubrics and milestone checklists to support learners in project management
Module 6
Design a project-based learning experience
Design a project-based learning experience and reflect on the practice

Course Enrollment

Enrollment includes:

  • 1 year of access to the course in the Thinkific platform
  • Access to an online community of learner-centered educators.
  • Access to team members available to answer questions within 48 hours.
  • Certificate of completion upon finishing course

Course Credit Options

CONTINUING EDUCATION UNITS

Upon approval of your performance task receive 1.5 quarter units of post-baccalaureate, salary-scale applicable credit offered by UCSD.
