Course Overview

This course supports educators in leveraging the design thinking experience for themselves and in their classrooms with learners. Educators will learn the design thinking process by participating in a design challenge thinking about how to make their classroom and school an even better learning environment for their students. Finally, educators will design a design thinking learning experience or challenge for their students to learn through designing solutions for real-world problems.

Course Modules

Modules will include videos, lessons, reflection activities, checks for understanding, additional resources and a performance task to apply what you learn.

Module 1:Introduction to Design Thinking
Describe design thinking and how it is an important learner-centered strategy for you in your context
Module 2:Empathize
Begin your design challenge by conducting empathy interviews with your students
Module 3:Define and Ideate
Further define your design challenge opportunity and brainstorm ideas
Module 4:Prototype
Take the best idea for your design challenge and build a prototype
Module 5:Test and Reflect
Wrap up your design challenge by testing out your prototype and gathering feedback
Module 6:Develop a Design Thinking Experience
Plan a design thinking learning experience/challenge for your classroom that supports students in solving real world problems
