Joanna Libby is a systems-minded educator and leader with a steadfast belief that everyone thrives when their unique strengths are recognized, nurtured, and put into action. Whether she’s guiding a team through a complex organizational shift or supporting educators in centering student agency, Joanna leads from behind—quietly, powerfully, and always with an eye toward the bigger picture.
Joanna’s career began in the classroom, where she taught middle school, served as a literacy specialist and special education teacher, and chaired the social studies department. She later became a BTSA coach, basketball coach, and district-level Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment. With each role, she honed her ability to elevate others—students and colleagues alike—by weaving people, practices, and tools into systems that work. Her transition into ed tech allowed her to bridge the worlds of engineering and education, working with product teams to build tools grounded in real educator needs and classroom realities.
At Learner-Centered Collaborative, Joanna brings this same thoughtful integration to her role as Senior Vice President of Business & People Operations. She is the person who “puts the puzzle pieces together,” aligning strategy, people, and operations to create the conditions for transformational work.
Beyond her strategic skills, Joanna has a surprisingly creative streak. A former theater major, she loves karaoke, macrame projects the size of bedspreads, and most recently, songwriting classes with retirees. She lives in Long Beach and is known for her mix of grounded leadership and joyful creativity—always ready to solve a problem, start a singalong, or both.
