Sharing Our Gratitude

LCC Gratitude 2021

Oscar Wilde quote

In many ways, March 2020 until now seems like a whirlwind of ever-changing expectations, rules, and barriers to navigate. What so many of us took for granted in education—the schedules, the routines, or even the normalcy of being together in a room—was disrupted and has led many to challenge the status quo. As Oscar Wilde once wrote, “Without structure, nothing exists. Without chaos, nothing evolves.”

As we strive to create education ecosystems that empower all learners to know who they are, thrive in community, and actively engage in the world as their best selves, we are inspired by what thoughtful, passionate educators and leaders have created, and as a result, how education has truly evolved. We know that the work is hard but it is so critical to step back and acknowledge the bright spots and what is working.

Learn more about our learner-centered vision.

As such, we wanted to share some of the things that we are grateful for:

We are grateful for our team at Learner-Centered Collaborative, comprised of talented and compassionate individuals, who are deeply committed to the vision and embody our values in all they do. Whether teams are making sure everything runs smoothly internally, ensuring the technology meets the needs of learners, or customizing learning experiences for adults, our team lives out our values by:

  • being trusted and responsible partners.
  • being curious and humble learners.
  • approaching our work with courage.
  • building inclusive communities.
  • being impact-driven.

See what our team is grateful for this year.

We are grateful for our partner schools and districts, who in spite of challenges, resources, and seemingly endless contact tracing, keep showing up to create learner-centered schools and districts that are committed to whole-learner outcomes, designing meaningful learning experiences, and creating the enabling conditions for their unique journey to inclusive and equitable learner-centered education.

We are grateful for our learner-centered community that shares resources, invites collaboration, and works together to create new and different models of school that allow for everyone to be seen for who they are, be known for their strengths, interests, and values, and grow to their fullest potential.

With gratitude,

Devin & Katie

What is the Purpose of School? A Call for Whole-Learner Outcomes.
What is the purpose of school? For the past four decades, the prevailing national answer—shaped largely by the 1983 report “A Nation at Risk” and documented by historian Patricia Graham—has been singular: Achievement. This focus helped usher in an era of standardization, compliance, and testing. It was designed to respond to global economic anxieties…

A Learner-Centered Ecosystem
It’s time for a shift from the school-centered education system—where efficiency, standardization, compliance, ranking, sorting, and task completion are top priorities—to a learner-centered paradigm, where we focus on supporting each learner to know who they are, thrive in community, and actively engaged in the world as their best selves. “A Learner-Centered Ecosystem” dives deep…
