Learner-Centered Collaborative Announces Appointment of Co-CEO Leadership Structure to Drive Next Phase of Impact

SAN DIEGO, CA — Learner-Centered Collaborative (LCC), a leading national nonprofit committed to creating learner-centered education ecosystems, today announced the formalization of its Co-CEO leadership structure. Co-founders Devin Vodicka and Katie Martin will now officially serve as Co-CEOs, reinforcing the organization’s collaborative foundation and commitment to distributed leadership, and preparing it for an exciting new chapter of growth, innovation, and impact.

“Since the inception of Learner-Centered Collaborative, Katie and I have led as partners in this work. Formalizing our Co-CEO roles is a natural evolution that reflects the collaborative culture we’ve fostered within our organization and with our partners,” said Devin Vodicka, Co-CEO. “This model positions us to grow, adapt, and amplify our impact across the education sector.”

Katie Martin, Ph.D., who previously served as Chief Impact Officer, brings deep expertise in advancing learner-centered practices and scaling change across diverse educational contexts. An internationally recognized thought leader, author of Learner-Centered Innovation and Evolving Education, and architect of LCC’s learner-centered ecosystem framework, Katie has worked directly with thousands of educators across school, district, and university systems. As Co-CEO, she will continue driving strategic innovation alongside Vodicka.

“I’m honored to step into the Co-CEO role and build on the momentum we’ve created together,” said Martin. “This model reflects how we lead — collaboratively, with trust and shared purpose — and it mirrors the learner-centered approaches we champion in schools. I’m excited to keep working alongside our team and partners to reimagine what’s possible in education.”

A three-time California Superintendent of the Year and nine-time White House invitee, he previously served as Superintendent of Vista Unified School District, where he led a groundbreaking district-wide transformation. As author of Learner-Centered Leadership and a long-standing advocate for systems change, Devin continues to champion the creation of education ecosystems where all learners can thrive.

Joseph South, President of LCC’s Board of Directors, shared the Board’s unanimous endorsement of the leadership evolution: “The appointment of Katie Martin as Co-CEO alongside Devin Vodicka signals our commitment to continuity and innovation in leadership. This decision ensures LCC is well-positioned to deepen our partnerships, enhance operational capacity, and drive meaningful change in education ecosystems.”

Since its founding, Learner-Centered Collaborative has partnered with K-12 schools, districts, and state education agencies across more than 30 states, growing its partner network by 20% year-over-year.

What is the Purpose of School? A Call for Whole-Learner Outcomes.
What is the purpose of school? For the past four decades, the prevailing national answer—shaped largely by the 1983 report “A Nation at Risk” and documented by historian Patricia Graham—has been singular: Achievement.
