Build a Strong Design Team

Meaningful change is rarely the work of one person. Whether you’re redesigning a school, launching a new program, building a Portrait of a Learner, or setting a strategic direction, the people at the table shape what’s possible.

Our free interactive Design Team Tool helps you put together a team that reflects your whole community, from leaders, educators, and learners to families, staff, and community partners. Together, they’ll serve as vision-shapers, co-designers, testers, and trust-builders throughout the process. In a few minutes, you’ll have a draft team and a roadmap for your planning process.

How it works:

  1. Build your list. Add the people you’re thinking of inviting and the roles they bring.
  2. Check your coverage. See which perspectives are represented and which voices might be missing.
  3. Finalize your team. Settle on a team of about 7–10 people and a roadmap for your planning process.

Use this tool to:

  • Identify Design Team members who bring a range of perspectives and lived experiences
  • Spot gaps in who’s represented before the work begins
  • Plan for collaboration, engagement, and shared ownership

Pairs well with: The School Redesign Playbook, if your work is focused on redesigning a school.
