Superintendent Marlon Styles and High Tech High GSE Leader Katie Weisberg to Join Learner-Centered Collaborative’s Growing Team of Educational Leaders

January 9, 2023—San Francisco, CA—Superintendent Marlon Styles, widely recognized for notable academic improvements and the positive #MiddieRising culture at Middletown City School District, and Katie Weisberg, a leader at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education,  will be joining the education non-profit Learner-Centered Collaborative

Styles has served as Superintendent of Middletown City School District in Ohio for the past five years, during which time he has implemented numerous initiatives to improve student achievement and increase community engagement. As a Partner at Learner-Centered Collaborative, Styles will work closely with schools and districts nationally to help them implement learner-centered approaches and achieve their goals.

“I am proud of the work we have done in Middletown to support our students and teachers, and I am excited to bring my experience and skills to the Learner-Centered Collaborative,” Styles said.

Committed to the success of all learners, including the most marginalized, Styles has become a vocal supporter of closing the equity gap on the national stage. Known for connecting with community through “Ride Alongs” and as a co-advisor for Digital Promise’s Students for Equitable Education (SEE) Summit, a student-led movement calling for equitable education that values, honors, and affirms the identity of every student, Styles has extensive experience engaging communities, empowering students, and elevating their voices to affect transformational change.

Also joining the Learner-Centered Collaborative team is Katie Weisberg, Co-Director of the M.Ed in Educational Leadership program at the High Tech High Graduate School of Education. Weisberg previously directed the Special Education programs for the High Tech High K12 schools and has served in a variety of leadership roles focused on creating inclusive, asset-based, transformative learning environments. She is passionate about cultivating leaders who have the courage to question the status quo and reimagine schools as places for justice and deeper learning for all students.

The Learner-Centered Collaborative is an educational non profit organization that works with schools and districts to create competency-based, personalized, authentic, and inclusive and equitable learning experiences for educators and students.

“We are thrilled to welcome Marlon and Katie to the Learner-Centered Collaborative team,” said Devin Vodicka, CEO of Learner-Centered Collaborative. “Marlon’s experience as a Superintendent, his leadership acumen, and his passion for ensuring all learners have the skills and mindsets to know themselves, thrive in community and actively engage in the world as their best selves make him the perfect fit for this role.” Vodicka also added, “Katie’s experience at High Tech High and her expertise in developing leadership and instructional capabilities will be tremendous assets to our partners.”

Styles has announced his transition from the Middletown City School District and will begin his new position as Partner with the Learner-Centered Collaborative on March 1. Weisberg will begin as Director of Strategic Partnerships on January 23.
